Day by Day Through Lent: Day Thirty-two
“Throwing stones” is a common phrase used to describe accusations, unfair or otherwise, that one person makes against another. The phrase comes, of course, from a well-known story from the Gospel of John, in which a woman “caught in the very act of adultery” is brought before Jesus for judgement. Jesus invites anyone in the angry, bloodthirsty crowd who is without sin to start the stone-throwing. It is a classic story of compassion and forgiveness. Watch a dramatization of it by clicking on the image of Jesus and the woman above.
