Day by Day Through Lent

Today: A presentation on Conscience Formation at 6:30 PM

in the School Conference Room. All are welcome!

With Jesus in the desert ...

We are all familiar with the so-called “seven deadly sins”: anger, lust, envy, etc. A sin that doesn’t get much publicity is the sin of sloth. Here is a description of this deadly sin: “Sloth is that strange laziness and passivity of our entire being which always pushes us “down” instead of “up.” It constantly convinces us that no change is possible or even desirable. It is in fact a deeply rooted cynicism which to ever spiritual challenge responds “what for?” and makes of our life one tremendous spiritual waste. It is the root of all sin because it poisons spiritual energy at its very source.” (Alexander Schemann)

A prayer for today:

O Lord and Master of my life!

Take from me the spirit of sloth:

Vain curiosity, lust for power, idle talk.

But give to me, your servant,

A spirit of soberness,

and love.

Yes, Lord and King,

Grant me to see my own faults

And not to judge my neighbor

For you are blessed

to the ages of the ages. Amen
