Day by Day Through Lent: Day Twenty-six

"I was blind; now I can see!"

The suggested activity for today on our parish Lenten calendar (click here to see the calendar) is to “visit the burial place of a loved one.” The weather today could make that difficult and a bit sloppy if that would mean getting to a cemetery gravesite (instead of a mausoleum or columbarium). Even so, you can include a prayer for a deceased relative or friend in your daily prayer time today. Praying for the dead is one of the traditional Spiritual Works of Mercy and an appropriate reflection for the time of penance and fasting. Remember the theme that was proclaimed on Ash Wednesday at the start of Lent: We are made from dust and to dust we shall return. Our hope is in the risen life God offers us through Jesus Christ! So say a prayer today for a deceased loved one, either at the cemetery, in church, or at home! Click the picture below for a hopeful song about life after death!
