Day by Day Through Lent: Day Twenty-two
"I was blind; now I can see!"
"If you were blind, there would be no sin in that. But 'we see', you insist, and so your sin remains." With these words, the story of the man who had been blind from birth ends. They are words not so much of condemnation of the close-minded religious leaders, but a simple, sad description of their situation. They are not able to see beyond their own righteousness, which leaves them unable - or unwilling - to see the power and presence of God.
