Day by Day Through Lent: Day Twelve

He was transfigured before their eyes ...

On our parish Lenten Calendar, today’s suggested activity is to pray one decade of the rosary using the luminous mysteries. the Luminous Mysteries (also called “the Mysteries of Light”) are the “newest” mysteries of the rosary; they were added to the traditional rosary by Pope John Paul II in 2002. John Paul wanted us to focus on the saving activity of Jesus beyond his birth, death, and resurrection, so the Luminous Mysteries focus on the activities of Jesus in proclaiming the Kingdom of God: Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River, the miracle of water and wine at the wedding feast in Cana, the proclamation of the Kingdom with teachings and miracles, the transfiguration, and the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. The Luminous Mysteries are traditionally prayed on Thursdays.
