"Carnival” is the name given to the days before the season of Lent begins, sometimes celebrated with raucous parties, feasting, parades, and music. “Mardi Gras” (“Fat Tuesday” in French) is the culmination of the celebration of Carnival, and it comes this week! So, Monday and Tuesday, live it up (within reason, of course), because on Wednesday, it will be Lent!
On Ash Wednesday we will have a Mass at noon, as well as two other prayer services that will include the distribution of ashes. There will be a service at 8:30 AM with the school students, Mass at noon, and another service at 7:00 PM. While not a “holy day of obligation”, Ash Wednesday remains an important day as we begin to return to the Lord.
